The Kohl's Vendor Portal is a platform where all suppliers can list their products with detailed descriptions in order to provide updated inventory available for any store. The Vendor tool is a great communication channel between store managers, distributors, suppliers and warehouse managers.
At the beginning of the project, nobody foresees how huge this portal will become, but after a few months working on it, it was evident how the quantity of screens started growing exponentially.
Around the second wave of the project, there was the need to create a design kit, which eventually became a sketch design library that was built after recollecting and organizing a one year's assets created based on the requests made by CX when delivering wireframes for each stage.
After that year the library became public and everyone in the team was able to collaborate creating variations requested for different scenarios of the Portal.
The library is composed of icons, form components, buttons, notification messages, menus, overlays, modals and more components. Here is a recollection for some of them.
Once a library like this is published, the labor of maintenance starts. It was important to set a monthly meeting to coordinate important updates that needed to be integrated to the library in order to be aligned to approved versions.
Another aspect was applying flexibility properties to each element to prevent a consistent coverage of any possible scenario. The most common modification normally is the width size for multiple components.
